Research

Contemporary illustration
“Big Book of Contemporary Illustration” covers the broadest range of illustration today from digital drawing, pixelated pictures, Photoshop fantasies to the traditional techniques of sketching and painting from over 160 international artists.

Idea - simple background - nice produced font for saturday sessions - S across center of image supporting people dancing on it  - neon lighting strips to enhance feel of image.

Matthew Star Thomas does incredibly detailed photoillustrative: intricate as lace, phantasmal and hallucinogenic as Technicolor hallucinations

Love the use of colour and depth to background - idea- use UV colours and club shapes - cd, dancers, lights, music to create detailed background of a bold font to sit on.

Producing my own typeface for MOS Saturday Sessions:

below is a really nice font produced by folding strips of paper:
This font works really well because it looks 3D because of the lighting conditions it was photographed in. The slight shadow behind the folds gives the font a standing 3D effect.

Creating a font with objects:

I love the use of objects to create this font - you can tell exactly what the font will be used for - gaming. Idea: i could create a font using items you take, use or have in a club for example cds, bottles, glasses, clothing, lights, decks, dancers.

Rounded font:

Although this font is slightly unreadable it has given me the idea to create my own font using the circular shape of the MOS logo. I could use the circle (portcullis) from the logo to design my own font that goes with the MOS style.

I love the use of layers of colour to create depth to these images and fonts, and the use of black and white images over colour.

Fluid Design

Projecting a font onto a screen - could be done for MOS logo - use of lighting and surroundings - place screen in club and photograph Saturday Sessions font on screen in club - present poster with information and image as background.

Producing a font on a template that looks like its a sticker - stuck onto the background.

Images do the talking - with a nice font that stands out (contrasts in colour) to enhance the meaning of the imagery.

This technique above is a very simple image creation using a minimal colour range and solid blocks of colour. I like the bold/vibrant effect of this.

Above is a clear nice rounded font that works well as a bold logo. I like the compact look of the font and the way that every letter is the same weight ([ ] square). A font that mirrors Ministry of Sounds logo would be good for Saturday Sessions.

Bright font over an image.

A clear colour scheme makes a company/brand easily identifiable.

Stencil font - this is one of my ideas for MOS to create a stencil font using light effects similar to a club environment.

About are examples of branding/ logo design by Soltze Design studios. A lot of these designs are based on contrast, the logo colour contrasts with the colour of the imagery.

I think that these images, especially the above, really reflect a club dance feel. They suggest bright lighting, motion and music.

I love the use of layered imagery in these pieces of work using colours to define shapes.

Mainartery Design

Mainartery is a London based creative design group formed by designers Jo Mirowski and Pete Hayward.
Use of a map to create an image - could use a scene in a club to create a font for MOS.

CD cover - font using symbols (solid blocks of colour)

Mystical imagery - could create image/font to music from MOS

Use of solid colour imagery on a black background - MOS colour scheme on black background.

Nice bold font with image to back it up. MOS bold font and dancing, club, music, lighting to enhance font.

Overlaying a logo onto imagery.

Use of one colour range as border, logo and within the image - complement each other.

Image created in one colour - could outline a scene/dancer

Very simple nice font stands alone with an image.

I could use mystical image of dancer as background image to poster.

Image reversal - fill an image outline with another image - dancer filled with lights n smoke effects of club.

Busy images with font that works as part of the image - images created with blocks of colour.

This research has given me some good ideas to start experimenting with for my Ministry of Sound poster design.

Whatever Ministry of Sound does, it has authority, it is epic and it is global. Whenever it does, it delivers a pioneering, iconic experience.

Ministry of Sound attracts clubbers and dance music lovers from all walks of life, with an average age of around 18-30. A night at Saturday Sessions will be the highlight of their month and will be something that they will plan
well in advance.
Background
Ministry of Sound in London is the most iconic nightclub venue in the world, run by passionate people with electronic music in their soul. 21 this year, it has the best sound system, the
biggest DJs and the friendliest, most down-to-earth vibe. It’s your perfect night out where you can lose yourself in an atmosphere unlike anywhere else.

http://www.ministryofsound.com/
This is the official website for Ministry of Sound. It contains a lot of information about events, gigs, the club, listen live, radio and shop, as well as linking to their online blog. The website uses a black background with faint shapes within it to make it look 3D and gives it an abstract, retro feel. The text is then placed over the background in a white font. The website is bought together with bight advert strips and posters.
The website contains unique features such as a listen live link to listen to the club music and a section on some of the most famous artists that have played at Ministry of Sound.
